"cause I am my enemy"

Eating disorders take a toll on us, mentally, physically. Our self-esteem, our confidence is worn down, ripped apart. At times, we feel worthless, we sink deeper and deeper into our disorders until we're drowning.

Yesterday, I read the blog of a girl who had written 101 reasons why she hated herself. It truly broke my heart, because she deserves 101 reasons to love herself.

I criticize myself with words that I would die rather than say to any friend, or even a stranger. And I know I am not alone in this.

So today, let's be kind to ourselves, and treat ourselves like we would treat someone we love. Because we deserve to feel happiness.

  1. I hate it when people say bad things about themselves, but I do it all the time.

the golden law ("...love your neighbor as yourself. there is no greater commandments than these" Mark 12:30) is much harder for girls like us to follow in reverse. I find myself often feeling like I love the people around me so much more than I could ever love myself.

I hope you remembered all the reasons to love yourself today, ma jolie.

  2. It's ironic that you post this on a day I feel most stressed but this post really opened my eyes. No self-hatred. At least not today. I've done my 24 hours and I'm going to do more and I will do them happily. I will think of every breath I take as something and I will remember that I am worthy. I don't think I can every day but I know I can TODAY. :)
    Thanks.
We love you, ma chere. xxxx

  3. Haha, this post made me smile because it reminded me of my friend yelling at me for being so negative about myself. For the next 24 hours, I will come up with loads of reasons to love the fact that I am me and that I exist! =) Thank you for the challenge. Haha

  4. We do deserve happiness so why does it have to be so hard to embrace it?

  5. I have written a list of 75 reasons, i started crying and ripped it up. That was right after something really terrible had happened to me. I wish i could find some things to love about myself, but it's so hard. every time i try, i tear up

  6. Hey, Babe!

Most excellent post! I couldn't agree more. We are all our own worst enemy. The thing is we CHOOSE to say these nasty things about ourselves, we can just as easily CHOOSE to say positive and uplifting things. It takes a little practice, but each and every one of is is more than worth it!

Have a great day! Heaps of love. <3. XXX.

  7. i completely agree. whenever i meet a critical person, i always feel bad for them, because i know how much more critical they must be of themselves:( thanks for the uplifting post. sometimes it gets dark in here

  8. I always feel sad for people who critisize themselves and want to help them somehow but i critisize myself all the time as well. I tend to hate myself every time something goes wrong, even if it wasn't really my fault i still feel guilty.
Thank you for this post! It made me feel better (^-^*)
    Have an awesome day ♥

I think I'm going to do something good for myself today... such as fasting...

  10. When people are in the depths of self-hatred you do really want to dive in and rescue them because you know yourself how much it drags you down and how much it hurts. Learning to love yourself takes time, for some more time than others, the worst thing is once you have an ED it will always be there but it can be pushed away and rejected.
Thank you for the post, I really do believe that everyone should be encouraged to say what is most beautiful about themselves - and remember true beauty is from the inside!

  13. this was really beautiful, thanks. I was just thinking the same thing this morning; how I say encouraging things to people that I would never say to myself. I guess it's time we start claiming all the things we tell others!!
